Care at Every Stage
For Amenity or Landscaping Purposes
Wyevale Nurseries dedicates over 70 acres to growing over 1.5 million plants in 1 litre to 10 litre pots. We have over 1,000 varieties listed and we update this range on a regular basis.
Our container site has seen continued investment with projects designed to ensure environmental quality and efficiency standards continue to be raised.
Production Director Container Division
Steve has worked at Wyevale for 30 years since gaining an Higher National Diploma in commercial plant production. He has experience of Hardy Nursery Stock of all ages from cuttings to 25L specimens. Steve works closely with his knowledgeable team to produce top quality crops to the right specifications.
Starting at the beginning of a crop cycle, Wyevale Nurseries runs its own propagation departments.
This enables us to:
• ensure trueness to type on all varieties we propagate from our own stock material
• bulk up on important or new varieties quicker than the competition
• have a better understanding of crop issues by observing the initial growth process
• have exact growing standards and agreed blueprints for crop management
• have the ability to grow plants in the format that suits our processes, bringing cost efficiencies
• manage production flow better
• protect against buying in pests and diseases
Following propagation plants are moved through potting using top class machinery which can pot liners and bare root plants efficiently. It will then be transferred to either open beds, poly tunnels or glass houses to suit.
Left: Cuttings being taken for propagation Right: Potting.
By utilising our 1.5 hectares of additional new glass houses Wyevale Nurseries are able to achieve faster establishment, more even growth, speed of growth and early cropping. We have full Environment Control within our glass houses and are able to use integrated pest management.
Many of the poly tunnels are flexible and high venting helping to promote hardiness and disease resistance. The nursery also runs an automatic watering system attached to a weather station that predicts evapotranspiration levels and adjusts water application accordingly.
Wyevale Nurseries has bespoke areas set aside specifically for the growing of specimen stock to the highest standard.
Many nurseries claim to offer a
complete A-Z, few truly do!
We know how important the ‘one-stop-shop’ is to our customers and so we try to ensure that our A-Z is exactly that.
All our plants are grown to The National Specification Standard as a minimum specification and we aim to significantly exceed this minimum. Our shrubs contain 18 – 24mth Osmocote (long release fertilizer) to help ensure they establish well when planted.
We offer all the key landscape and amenity varieties, and where they exist, improved varieties - these may cost a little more, but the benefits justify that extra few pence.
For example Geranium Johnsons Blue, always popular but Geranium Rozanne which is a much more vigorous can be planted at twice the planting distances, reducing the overall planting costs. Griselinia littoralis Green Horizon and Prunus laurocerasus Novita are both much stronger forms than the straight species.
Wyevale Nurseries understands the need to extend the planting season as long as possible. We have quadrupled the volume of pot grown hedging that our container plant division grows so that we can now provide hedging all year round.
We specialise in contract growing and have many years’ experience in delivering plants to agreed specifications for a required delivery time and at very competitive prices:
